5 reasons why I love Squarespace

1. It really empowers my clients to take ownership of their site and their content.

With a super user-friendly back end, Squarespace makes it easy for clients to jump in and change content, swap out images, and even add new pages.

The number of times I’ve heard small businesses complain about an outdated developer having the logins and knowhow of their site, with the business themselves completely powerless to update their own site. Things change, businesses evolve, and sites need updating. So why work with a platform that makes it complicated to make your own changes?

Even maintaining a blog can be complex elsewhere - not on Squarespace. It’s so easy to write new posts, schedule them, and have them automatically pull through into other pages (like I have on my homepage). I always suggest having an unpublished post as a template, just to keep that reminder of how you like to have your content formatted.

2. It’s so much more customisable than you think!

People think of Squarespace as being a templated website builder, which it can be. But. The possibilities really are amazing - this website is built on Squarespace, and I bet you never thought of it as templated - because it’s not!

You can start with a blank page and create something really unique, but get this - it’s still easy. By using simple blocks (text blocks, image blocks, etc) you can create page layouts that are bespoke to you, but still so easy to implement and edit.

You can even pull in custom code (if that’s your thing!)

And yes, there are beautiful page templates on offer (for when you’re in a rush or stuck for ideas), but these will always pull through your brand’s styling (fonts, colours, button styles, etc) making them feel truly yours.

3. You can get a site live quickly. It really doesn’t take long to create something beautiful.

I’ve built simple sites in a few hours before - really. Once you have made decisions on the styling, and know how to implement it, everything just flows from there. If your content is ready to go, you really can build and launch a Squarespace site in one day. I’m serious!

Once I took the time to understand how to use the platform, everything just became so simple - Squarespace really have taken the time to think about the easiest and most efficient way of doing things, and it pays off.

4. It’s got great SEO capability.

Since the 2021 update, it’s now easier than ever to boost your site’s SEO. With simple, built-in, designated spaces within the platform to add in SEO text, it also gives you tips like renaming your images for SEO benefit.

As a Designer, not and SEO expert, it’s always fascinating watching the analytics for my own website, and how well certain pages perform. I’m so grateful that I don’t have to spend hours reading up on SEO hacks to try and get the basics covered.

To get you started, I found this great guide that walks you through 17 ways to maximise your Squarespace site’s SEO.

5. It’s got everything in once place.

As well as having built-in blog and portfolio spaces, Squarespace also has email, analytics, ecommerce, scheduling and more. All within one platform, you can build your website, write a blog, send email newsletters, and track how it’s all performing.

Yes, it can sync up with platforms like MailChimp and Google Analytics, too, but it also has its own version - so why make it complicated?

If you think Squarespace might be the platform for you, too, then consider taking my course: ‘The Six Hour Squarespace Site’, which will empower you to make it happen in just one day.
