3 ways to make comparison easy for your customers

A top tip for those of you offering multiple products: Whether physical products OR services - make comparison easy for your customers.

A good UX (or user experience) is associated with things being painless, quick and EASY. Yes, long written descriptions have their benefit - they allow your users to deep dive into what you're selling, and learn the nitty gritty details. But - long written descriptions aren't scannable. They AREN'T useful for the user who's browsing to see if you and your product are for them.

Here are three quick ideas to consider:

1. Add a highlighted 'Suitable for...' alongside the product name to quickly create resonance (- and also to help users disregard products that were never going to be useful to them).

Eg. 'Suitable for +5 years', 'Perfect for beginners', 'Loved by freelancers'.

2. Group similar products (or services) together, and then break them out from WITHIN that category, by what makes them different or unique.

The simplest example of this is if you're selling the same t-shirt in multiple colours, but it also works for services.

Rather than listing out the 10 services that you offer, if three of them are writing-based, or if half of them are only needed by a particular industry, then label them clearly in this way.

Make it easier for the customer to compare from a place of relevance and context.

3. Consider the layout. Can options sit side-by-side - in a table, with bullet points, or in neat little cards - allowing users to directly see how two options compare?

Don't be afraid to put users off a product that is wrong for them - clarity breeds trust, and a satisfied customer breeds loyalty.

What do you sell? And how do you make comparison easy in your business?
